In chapter one, Father Saren tells Cassian about the concept of “jessy,” which is the sylued word for “purpose.” Your jessy is that creative thing you do – even just privately – that makes you feel like you. It doesn’t have to be what you do for a living, but it is that thing that makes you want to get up in the morning. Music? Dancing? Cooking? Photography? Whatever art, craft or exercise it might be, if it lights you up inside… that’s your jessy. The Elsebrin practice their jessy as a way to meditate and open themselves up as a channel to Creation. Keeping that channel open and creative energy flowing is the purpose of life, in the Elsebrin way of thinking. Can’t say that I disagree.
